Your Questions About Scuba Diving Trips Florida

Maria asks…
Planning a trip to Florida and I need some help!?
My bf has not been out of state and we are finally taking a weekend vacation. He really wants to go to Florida and go deep sea fishing and maybe scuba diving as well. So I’m trying to plan it around the fishing. I’m sure the fishing will be the most expensive portion of the trip and therefore I’m hoping to find the best rates as possible. Can anyone help me with some decent priced fishing rates and spots. Also just good spots to vacation in Florida.

Someone mentioned the Keys and I totally agree. Having lived in Key West and having been on some fantastic deep sea fishing excursions from Key West I highly recommend it. Too bad Captain Bill Tomlinson isn’t running the Key West trip anymore – Wow! Talk about the Captains Captain!!!!!
Anyway, I would suggest Captain Jeff Shelar. He knows it all and is very close to ol Capt Tommy! Here is his website:

You will definitely have the fishing trip of a lifetime! Just make sure you don’t get sea sick because there is no turning around once you are out. I would recommend taking a look at this:

For lodging go to Hotwire and plug in Key West. You will be amazed!
Good luck and have fun. That’s very, very nice of you to do this for your BF. You are a sweet lady!

Sharon asks…
Has oil reached the Florida Keys?
I have a SCUBA trip to the Florida Keys in July, and I’m wondering if it’s still safe to SCUBA there because of the oil slick. We’ll be diving in the Keys themselves, so if there is oil we cant dive.
So does anyone know if oil has/or will reach the keys within July?
Thanks
Tom Trindell answers:
No.
Despite the hysterical media coverage, the spill is actually affecting only a small part of the Gulf of Mexico and isn’t anywhere near the FL Keys.

Jenny asks…
Do you think this is too expensive for a trip to Florida?
There is a trip coming up at my school to go to Florida the week after we get out of school for summer vacation. When we go there we will go scuba diving, hiking, and science related activities. The trip costs $1,599 plus $99 enrollment fee. That includes the plane ticket to and from Florida, all meals, all admission fees, evening activities, field journals, the hotel room, the guide, transportation and all that kind of stuff. We will be staying there for 5 days and 4 nights. It says on the form that there will be ‘quad occupancy’. What does that mean? Do you think this is to expensive? And by the way we are going to Florida from Virginia so it’s not that far away.
Tom Trindell answers:
I do think that is a little pricy especially so close. But also you are with the school and they always charge more.
