Your Questions About Scuba Diving Trips Australia

George asks…

My trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji?

In the middle of December of this year my family and I will be heading to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji for a month.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions of what to possibly do in these places. When we’re in Australia, we will be staying in Brisbane with maybe a couple days in Sydney, so anything around there to do? New Zealand we will be going all around both islands, and Fiji we will be going to lots of the island.

So far in Australia i want to:
Surf
Tour the Great Barrier Reef
and lay on the beach

New Zealand: Nothing planned so far

Fiji: Scuba diving and surfing

Anything else in these places that are a must see and must do? Any really good bars in some of these places?

What i would really love to do is catch a Rugby game (All Blacks or Wallabies), but I dont know when the Rugby season ends and i’ve looked for tickets and cant find anything. I’d also go see a Cricket game or Aussie Rules Football.

So any suggestions everyone?

Tom Trindell answers:

We went to Australia and New Zealand about 2 years ago and loved the vacation! While in Sydney, I’d say a must see is a day trip to the Blue Mountains. They are absolutely gorgeous and that was really our favority part of Sydney. We went surfing at Manly Beach. We also went scubadiving in the Great Barrier out of Cairns but didn’t find much to do in the city itself. You may have better luck in Brisbane.

On the South Island in New Zealand, Arthur’s Pass is a must see…very beautiful and quiet, great hiking. We also went glacier hiking in Franz Josef which I highly recommend. On the North Island, I would recommend white water rafting (tallest commercially raftable falls in the world) outside Rotorua and caving in the Waitomo Caves. That was extremely thrilling and so much fun…an all day exploration. As you can see, we’re more adventurous so I’m not sure what you’d be looking for.

Susan asks…

How much would this trip cost?

3 people going from Boston to Australia for 10 days then going to new Zealand for 4 days, then back to Boston. In Australia we go scuba diving

Calculate separately (transportation, hotels, other like food and scuba diving)

[I may be posting a lot of travel questions, but I'm not going anywhere very soon. This is just to see how much it would cost to finish my bucket list.]
5 days in Melbourne, 5 days in Queensland.

Tom Trindell answers:

This question is to hard to answer fully as it depends what sort of Accomodation you go for. You can check some accomodation prices out on www.wotif.com.au Then there are backpacker hostels or cabins in tourist parks or motels which many have a kitchen so you can cook there. Or hotels cheaper to up market 5 star. Calculate the food roughly on what you spend at home. There again you can buy from supermarkets to take aways such as McDonalds or coffee shops or restaurants. Transport depends how you want to get around there are cheap domestic flights if you look for them with Virgin blue or jetstar.com.au. Or buses or hire cars. Take a look at tours to the Great Barrier reef on google.

James asks…

best time to go to australia?

Im planning a trip to go to australia sometime next year. I want to start at melbourne and work my way up the coast to cairns. I want nice weather that is suitable for swimming in sydney and scuba diving in cairns but i dont want to go when there are too many people. The best time for me would be june or july but i dont know if their winter is warm enough to be able to swim and scuba dive and be outside and stuff. If june and july are too cold, what could be some other times? ive heard september is nice but i don think i can go then

Tom Trindell answers:
